Our Projects

The home has been able to accomplish an incredible amount in the last ten years with very limited funds.  Some of the major projects and accomplishments are shown on this page.

The long-term goal of the orphanage is to become largely self-sustaining. They expect to do this by generating income through sales of livestock and garden produce along with baked goods. To accomplish this they have built the infrastructure to raise goats, cows, pigs, and poultry.  Their garden and farm now produce fruit, greens, vegetables, tomatoes, cassava, maize, and beans .  The infrastructure includes a well, buildings to house the animals, a rain-catchment system, a kitchen/store, and fencing to protect the compound.

In 2018 a community training center will be built  which will provide training in basic business skills, sustainable agriculture, animal husbandry, food preparation and hairdressing to both the children and local residents.

In addition, in order to house more children (with an ultimate goal of roughly 100), there is a need for an additional dormitory, staff housing, and improved sanitation facilities.  A vehicle is needed to provide transport for produce to and from the market, as well as transportation for the staff and children to school and medical facilites.

Although it is hoped that these income-producing projects will provide much of the funds needed for the food not produced in the garden, clothes and shoes, school fees, and the salaries of a modest staff (cook, matron, gardener, and guard), the orphanage would like to build up a network of donors willing to commit to its long-term sustainability.
