Background
St. Paul and Rose orphanage has operated since 2003 when Paul and Rose Bogere started to care for orphans in their community. It was not until 2007 that they earned the money to buy the orphanage property. The organization grew and expanded its programs to provide holistic care for children and families who needed it the most. Since that time, the St. Paul and Rose Orphans’ Care Centre provides shelter, love and care for parentless children, as well as teaching them farming, gardening, sewing and other valuable life skills for their future self-support.
In 2010, the home cared for 26 children, but only about 50% of those that were living in the home were able to attend school because the home could not afford to send them all. Then, with support received, Paul and Rose made it a priority to ensure that every child in the home was enrolled. Now, roughly 60 children currently served by St. Paul and Rose Orphans’ Care Centre receive formal education at local schools along with practical education at our home. The senior secondary students attend boarding school in order to prepare for A-level exams. Once they graduate, they are enrolled in vocational and professional skills training programs to prepare for employment and life outside the home.
We strive to teach the children tolerance and concern for others and we support them to become good citizens.
Mission
St. Paul and Rose Orphans’ Care Centre's mission is to promote and support vulnerable children and families through education, good health, hygiene, and spiritual enrichment.
Our priorities
We have created and continue to maintain our organization to provide love and care for parentless children by sending them to school, feeding and clothing them, housing them on the orphanage property or in rented space in the nearby village, teaching them good citizenship and the love of God, as well as practical knowledge such as farming and gardening, sewing and other valuable life skills to become self-supporting in the future.
The St. Paul and Rose Orphans' Care Centre is governed by a board of directors comprised of members of the local Buwala community as well as leaders in other relatively nearby areas.
